FUASI'S ORGAN ENSEMBLE
is a jazz quartet born from curiosity, friendship, and the joy of exploration. The group took shape through a series of informal rehearsal sessions with longtime collaborator Tal Balshai, a pianist who increasingly found his voice on the Hammond B3 organ. What began as open-ended musical conversations gradually evolved into a focused ensemble with its own distinct sound.

Fuasi Abdul-Khaliq
Fuasi started his music career as a singer in the church at the young age of 6 as a soloist inthe youth choir. His mother started him on clarinet when he was 8 years of age and throughout his early years, his musical talent was already evident in the number of competitions awards he won in elementary and junior high school bands he performed in. His early career included two LP Albums he recorded at the age of 10 and 11 as 1st clarinetist in the Los Angeles Unified All City Elementary School Honor Orchestra.
Fuasi has begun performing professionally since 1972 after graduating from college. while during his post graduate studies with the late great African-American pianist, Horace Tapscott and the institution named, “UGMAA” (Union of God's Musicians and Artist Ascension) in Los Angeles, California. This led to a lifetime relationship with Tapscott's Pan-Afrikan People's Arkestra (“PAPA”), during which time he served as assistant conductor, arranger, composer, copyist and player of saxophone, clarinet and flute.
He has performed from coast to coast in the U.S. and in 1992 he came to Berlin where he became well known in the city's music scene. During the last 30 years abroad in Germany he has toured throughout Europe, Asia, Africa and Central America.
Tal Balshai
Tal Balshai, born in 1969 in Jerusalem, studied classical and jazz piano in Jerusalem, Berlin, and New York, as well as Tonmeister (sound engineering) at the Berlin University of the Arts (UdK). As a pianist and accompanist, he has performed at venues including La Scala in Milan, the State Operas of Hamburg, Berlin, and Vienna, the Teatro Real in Madrid, and at the Salzburg Festival.
He is a longtime collaborator and arranger for Angela Denoke and Dagmar Manzel. His orchestral arrangements have been performed by ensembles such as the Staatskapelle Dresden under Christian Thielemann, the Tonkünstler Orchestra under John Jones, and the Staatskapelle Halle under Karl-Heinz Steffens.
Tal Balshai composes and performs music for film and theatre, sets poetry to music, and writes his own songs and instrumental works. He lives in Berlin with his wife and three children.
Gur Liraz - guitar
Gur Liraz was born in 1988 in Tel Aviv, Israel, and was accepted into the prestigious Thelma Yellin High School with a major in jazz. He spent four years studying with jazz guitar master Ofer Ganor.
After an eight-month stay in New York, where he studied with guitar legend Peter Bernstein, Gur moved to Berlin in 2013 and quickly became part of the city’s rapidly evolving jazz scene. With his quartet, he accompanied singer Amanda Becker on her debut album "You're Looking at Me". The two also recorded a duet album, "Ask Me Now", in 2023. His debut album "Squiggles" was released on May 19, 2023, on the London-based label Ubuntu Music.
Tilman Persons - drums
Originally from Lower Saxony, T.P. came to Berlin in 1991 to study with Jerry Granelli and David Friedman. He is a permanent member of the band Lyambiko, the Martina Gebhardt Band and the Albrecht Gündel-vom Hofe Jazz Sextet. As a sideman he has been recorded on countless recordings and is an integral part of the Berlin scene with up to 100 performances a year.

Fuasi begann seine musikalische Laufbahn im Alter von sechs Jahren als Solosänger in der Kirche und begann zwei Jahre später mit dem Klarinettenspiel. Als begabter junger Musiker nahm er bereits mit elf Jahren zwei LPs auf und gewann zahlreiche Musikpreise in der Schule. Nach seinem College-Abschluss im Jahr 1972 studierte er bei der Jazzlegende Horace Tapscott und wurde ein zentrales Mitglied der Pan-Afrikan People’s Arkestra, wo er als Arrangeur, Dirigent und Multiinstrumentalist tätig war. Seit seinem Umzug nach Berlin im Jahr 1992 ist Fuasi eine angesehene Persönlichkeit in der internationalen Jazzszene und tritt regelmäßig in Europa, Asien, Afrika und Mittelamerika auf.
Tal Balshai
Tal Balshai, geboren 1969 in Jerusalem, studierte klassisches und Jazz-Klavier in Jerusalem,Berlin, New-York und Tonmeister in der UdK in Berlin. Als Pianist und Begleiter trat er u.a. inder Mailänder Scala, den Staatsopern von Hamburg, Berlin und Wien, im Teatro Real in Madrid oder anlässlich der Festspiele in Salzburg auf. Er ist ein langjähriger Begleiter und Arrangeur von Angela Denoke und Dagmar Manzel. Seine Orchester-Arrangements wurden aufgeführt u.a. von der Staatskapelle Dresden unter Ch. Thielemann, das Tonkünstlerorchester unter J. Jones, Staatskapelle Halle unter Karl-Heinz Steffens. Tal Balshai komponiert und bringt zur Aufführung Musik für Film und Theater, er vertont Gedichte, schreibt eigene Lieder und Instrumentalmusik. Er lebt mit Frau und drei Kindern in Berlin.

Er verbrachte 4 Jahre mit dem Studium bei dem Jazzgitarrenmeister Ofer Ganor. Nach einem achtmonatigen Aufenthalt in New York, wo er Unterricht bei der Gitarrenlegende Peter Bernstein nahm, zog Gur 2013 nach Berlin und wurde bald in die sich rasant entwickelnde Jazzszene der Stadt eingebunden. Mit seinem Quartett begleitete er die Sängerin Amanda Becker bei ihrem Debütalbum "You're Looking at Me". Die beiden nahmen auch ein Duett-Album auf - "Ask Me Now" im Jahr 2023. Sein Debütalbum 'Squiggles' erschien 19. Mai 2023 beim Londoner Musiklabel UBUNTU Music erscheinen.

Ursprünglich aus Niedersachen kam T.P. 1991 nach Berlin um mit Jerry Granelli und David Friedman zu studieren. Er ist festes Mitglied der Band Lyambiko, der Martina Gebhardt Band und des Albrecht Gündel-vom Hofe Jazz Sextet. Als Sideman ist er auf unzähligen Tonträgern festgehalten und festerBestandteil der Berliner Szene mit jährlich bis zu ca 100 Auftritten.
